Random Rouge Friday: Picture time!

Glorious, I think I've got your number. Sometimes you don't need any words. Just enjoy the sparkles.

Big Easy Rider I'm fast learning that local TV here is a treasure. I'll get to the dance-catillion-type show with Cajun music in a later post. Meanwhile, after that program last night came LA Rider. I'm not joking when I say that although I am a pansy about the possibility of getting maimed, this biker magazine program made me want to ride. I think co-host TW Robinson here, with her combination of grace and bad-assedness, is now my favorite lady in the state of Louisiana. Many Baton Rouge bike-centric businesses advertise on the show, including a nearby bar that has an open mic comedy night I've been meaning to check out...I have a feeling it'll be quite different from the comedy I'm used to back in NYC.

Zoinks! Scariest dry cleaner evs, in the latest Abandoned Baton Rouge. Watch out for Old Man Devereaux!

Mesmerization station Blogger Play shows you a neverending parade of every photo currently being uploaded to Blogger, such as the vintage clip art above. (Except porno! I guess there's no more porn being uploaded to the interwebs.) So much for getting anything accomplished ever again. You can click to find out what blog and post name it's being uploaded to, and where. I even saw a crazy guy in a corn maze. (Not that I was watching it for 40 minutes or anything.)

Special request and dedication to KLSU I value the service you provide of bringing the indie rock hits to the Baton Rouge community. But please, I beg of you, more variety! I have heard "It's Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords at least 79 times in the past month. Not to mention the cover of "Common People" by William Shatner, maybe 25 times. I'm even sick of hearing the cover of "What a Fool Believes" that initially filled me with so much joy. The whole thing with novelty songs is that they are novel at first. How about something by these guys? I found them on Blogger Play and haven't heard them, but they look like they'd be awesome:

RIP in the USA Finally, please pour out a little watery swill from a silver-and-blue can for old Harv.

SAD UPDATE: I was suspicious of the tombstone, so I did a little Googly-oogly, and found out Harv's memorial seems to be a fake. On the plus side, this means Harv is still alive and you can totally party with him at the Blue Oyster Cult show at the state fair.

SAD UPDATE 2: I just heard "Common People" and "Business Time" within a few songs of each other on KLSU, quite possibly because this post was seen by some young whippersnapper at the station. I'm done with that station. From now on, it's WFMU online all day baby! Where they've had DJs like Dave the Spazz for the past umpteen years, as opposed to Spazzy Dave here on KLSU.

    Firstly, Harv rocks. Period.

Secondly, get your ass on a hawg CoKane! There's nothing to be scared of. Just make sure you wear a cute DOT approved helmet, then go like the wind. Because being on a motorcyle is seriously the closest you can get to flying.

    OMG!!!!

If I go early, I want that stone and every single one of the 3,000 - 4,000 concerts I have attended on it. I am even prepared to buy adjacent grave plots to fit it all.

Harv saw a million concerts, and he rocked them all the same.

    He was a cowboy.

On a steel horse he rode.

I guess they didn't think the tombstone needed a date because judging by the bands on it (and those that aren't there but would be expected….Guns-nRoses, Metallica, Cinderella, Poison, etc.) it is apparent that Ol' Harv kicked it in 1984....probably after passing out at the wheel of his Camaro from a few beers and a handful of qualudes.

Blogger play is the new procrastination zone. What next? Watching what words people search for? I'm down for that.

Don't give up completely on KLSU until you listen to my sister's show Valley Girl Intelligentsia on Wed nights at 11 (she's the man-hater). From the show's MySpace:
"Valley Girl Intelligentsia is a radio show featuring politico-feminist music - riot grrrl, queercore, feminist punk rock and related genres - and celebrity gossip. Valley Girl Intelligentsia is hosted by a group of superior women including, but not limited to: 1) those humorless feminist chicks in your WGS class, 2) that man hater who taught you Sociology of Marriage and Family, 3) a Planned Parenthood staffer, 4) that outspoken activist who won't shave her pits, and 5) all the other graduate assistants who have taught you at LSU that you suspect might be lesbians. Join our grrrl style revolution and the Britney and Lindsay discussion every Wednesday night, from 11:00 pm - 1:00 am, on 91.1 FM KLSU or at klsu.fm"

Robin--Awesome, I may need to try out biking with them for a story for some magazine.

Rebecca--Woah! How have I missed that show!? I guess I usually listen during the day.

Hope you had a good weekend....did you get to the game or at least to the tailgating?

I "gawrontee" you have never seen anything like this (except a couple of weeks ago ;-) )

If you were there, you are very fortunate....

vl100butch--I did not make it, alas. I didn't have a ticket and the weather conditions weren't favorable for me walking home. I actually did watch the game on TV for about five seconds, though, until my eyes glazed over.

t$--thank you! I'm glad someone appreciates Glorious as much as I do!

Hey, this is Randy, the music director at KLSU.
You have no idea how much variety I put into the logs at KLSU. If you want proof, stop by my office one day, and I'll show you how many songs we have on the server and the system we have set to ensure that a large variety of songs is played.
I'll have you know that I currently have "Business Time" set at the lowest rotation, meaning it should play about once per month on automation. The reason you hear it so much? People request it that much. Believe me, our DJs are just as sick of hearing it as you are, but we have to give our listeners what they want, because they're the people who support us.
The same goes for Common People, which I actually completely took out of automated rotation.
What a Fool Believes just happens to be a favorite of one of our DJs, so you're probably mostly listening when he's doing his show.
But ultimately, you like what you hear or don't like what you hear? Call our DJs and tell them. The number is 225-578-5578.
    Thanks.

Hey Randy, I apologize. I used to do college radio, too, and know how many hours the MDs put in. I'm sure I overplayed many songs myself. KLSU is one of the better things about this town, so, my bad. Lately I go back and forth between KLSU on terrestrial radio and WFMU on the computer.

We gave you a shout-out on the air today, right before calling a moratortium on requests for "Business Time". We've decided it can only be played on Wednesdays, and no more than twice per day.
I'm glad you like KLSU. We try hard.
