Just had to say welcome to BR; found your blog somehow and have been enjoying your journey. We moved to BR 5 years ago from the midwest. It seems that whenever I feel I've adjusted, I am reminded, one more time, how much of a newbie to LA I am. (about two weeks ago, once again, I mispronounced one of those unpronouncable cajun names).

And for the record, in Milwaukee we had www.todaystmj4.com. (so I grasped the absurdity of 2theadvocate right off the bat).

I think their URL should've been notthegayadvocate...

quite pleased you're finding what is really some solid entertainment (and New Orleans, it must be said, is decent)--the mechanical pig is one of the better things i've seen this year, and it's definitely appealing to walk all over oprah's face. WOW.

the cockroach belt buckle should be patented and sold throughout the south, no?

the gecko is very impressive, as is the humane catch-and-release of said gecko. good work.

i just stopped by to say hope it's going well, and it kinda looks like it just might be, which is cool. glad you met the good mother/daughter combo...really amazingly hospitable...

The Advocate's website used to be bradvocate.com or something like that. The newspaper and Ch. 2 are owned by the same people, so they work together and share the website. Just a little FYI.

Re the corn maize. if you go at night, it's "haunted." It's also tougher to navigate at night. If you haven't been to Port Allen yet (just across the Mississippi), don't expect too much.
